Johannes Berger was born in Rosenheim, Germany and received piano, harpsichord and organ lessons since early childhood. At the age of 11 he was accepted into the circle of students of the renowned Munich organist Franz Lehrndorfer and won First Prize in the Germany-wide competition Jugend Musiziert in organ.
Johannes Berger studied Organ with Harald Feller, Harpsichord with Christine Schornsheim and Church Music at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Munich. Selected by the institute for the Stipend Germany on the basis of his outstanding academic achievements, he completed his Artistic Diploma with distinction in 2011. In 2013 Johannes Berger completed a Master’s Degree in organ.
In addition to his graduate studies, he furthered his musical education by attending master-classes for organ and harpsichord with well-known performers such as Jacques van Oortmerssen (Amsterdam), Jörg Halubek (Linz), Olivier Latry (Paris), and Martin Schmeding (Freiburg).
In 2011 Johannes Berger won the international organ competition Grand Prix Bach de Lausanne in Switzerland receiving, too, the Audience Award.
A year later he earned the Culture Prize of the district of Rosenheim. Shortly thereafter, the Rotary Club honoured him with its Cultural Award for his musical achievements.
In addition to an extensive solo concert career, which has taken him to Belgium, Austria, Italy, Switzerland, the Czech Republic, Slovenia and Spain, and as far afield as Peru, he performs regularly with renowned ensembles such as the Dresdner Trompeten Consort, Harmonic Brass Munich and the Salzburger Trompeten Consort. He has moreover performed with orchestras such as the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra, Junge Deutsche Philharmonie, Chamber Orchestra of Cologne, Cappella Istropolitana Bratislava and the Georgian Chamber Orchestra. As a soloist and chamber musician, he has been engaged for several CD, television and radio productions.
Since 2009, Johannes Berger is Titular Organist and Curator of the largest outdoor organ in the world, located in Kufstein, Austria.
In 2015 he founded his own baroque ensemble
Concerto München, which he directs from the harpsichord.
